TANGO MACBETH screens on Wednesday January 21st 6pm as part of WAVE Cinema. Admission is FREE and we supply the popcorn. Impact Hub Philadelphia is at 1227 N. 4th Street in Northern Liberties, between Girard Avenue and Thompson Street. A Q&A with director Nadine Patterson and editor Sharon Mullally will follow the film. WAVE Cinema is a program that highlights the work of women filmmakers from the PA/NJ/DE area. WAVE screenings are the third Wednesday of every month. Sponsors include Impact Hub Philly and HipCinema. Co-sponsors are Griot Works, and Philadelphia Women in Film and Television.

WAVE is a program of HipCinema & Impact Hub Philadelphia. It is co-sponsored by: Philadelphia Women in Film & Television and Griot Works.

WAVE Cinema is a meeting place for film and media enthusiasts to experience work rarely seen in local venues by filmmakers and media artists from the PA-DE-NJ region and beyond. Each screening will feature audience Q&A with the makers. Works selected will have major creative input by women. We will meet every 3rd Wednesday of each month. Mark your calendar 6pm to 8:00pm every third Wedneday until April 2015. Events are FREE and open to the public.  Impact Hub Philadelphia is at 1227 N. 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19122.

We had a lovely time at the Museum of the Moving Image on Friday August 15th 2014. The weather was perfect. The audience was divine. The location of the museum is in Astoria Queens right next to Kaufman Film Studios. Thanks to Warrington Hudlin for inviting us to be a part of his Changing the Picture series. Our event coincided with a screening of work by Hong Kong film legends  Patrick Lung Kong  and  Tsui Hark, “The Story of a Discharged Prisoner”. Thanks to Tim Wynn for moderating an exciting Q&A; Mike Dennis of ReelBlack for documenting the Q&A; and Mike Hodge, President of New York’s SAG-AFTRA for bringing his colleagues to the event. Dir. Nadine Patterson. 2012, 74 mins. Digital projection. With Alexandra Bailey, Brian Anthony Wilson. In this multicultural and experimental Macbeth, a theater company rehearses the play while a documentary crew follows them. This blend of world music, contemporary dance, humor, and cinema verite is a refreshing take on the classic tragedy, and the first film adaptation of Shakespeare directed by an African-American woman.

Tickets for Friday evening screenings: $12 ($9 for senior citizens and students / free for Museum members) and includes admission to the Museum’s galleries, which are open until 8:00 p.m. For more information on membership and to join online, visit our membership page.

We had an all star ensemble of movie goers at the Tugg AMC Magic Johnson Harlem 9 screening of Tango Macbeth. Warrington Hudlin came to see the film, along with other notable independent filmmakers based in New York such as Mariette Monpierre. Alexandra Bailey who plays Lady Macbeth also attended the screening. F&M alumni Crystal Jones, Joel Bramble, and Ellen Henneberry attended the event, as well as London Film School alumni Dana Verde. The Sembene Film & Arts Festival formed in 2009 to celebrate the life and honor the legacy of Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène.  Ousmane Sembène is considered the ‘Father of African Cinema’ and one of the most important filmmakers of the 20th century.  Sembène – the Film & Arts Festival is the first film festival ever launched in honor of the Ousmane Sembène and it’s the first film festival in the region dedicated to showcasing films by, about and from the African Diaspora.
